Robert Morris’s Untitled Earthwork reshapes a 3.7-acre former gravel pit in SeaTac into concentric terraces descending into the ground, giving the excavation an ordered form without concealing it.
The work
Morris chose the site from roughly one hundred abandoned pits and disposal sites. Blackened stumps formed a ghost forest recalling what preceded extraction.
Before you go
The ground is part of the work. It is easiest to walk on a dry day.
